Complete recategorization on the way

I'm planning to completely recategorize all the posts in this blog with a new scheme of categorization. Over a period of time I began feeling that the current method of categorization does leave a little bit to be desired as I don't think I'm able to cover all the areas I blog about. Instead of fitting articles rigidly into specific categories, I'm now looking for a more natural categorization scheme which will reflect the nature of the content better with the categories acting more like "tags" or "labels".

I'm open to any ideas you might have as well.

Update: I've redone the categories now.

  1. Tag's are Better. Gives wide Categorization.

  2. But wordpress doesn't use tags. It uses categories. It can also be used as tags, so I should do something like that.Apporam enna. Namma Cricket bloga paartheengala? Join panni sendhu nadathalaamaa?

  3. My own categories on my blog are sort generic and it does make things easier. Like for instance, with TextPattern you can assign two different categories, so I have Computers, Software and Hardware. I didn't feel the need to get specific and make Linux and or Windows categories, but makes it real easy to assign different categories to whatever I'm writing about, as at times one thing can be sort of related to two topics.

  4. Hi drew, thanks for your thoughts. In WP, you can assign as many categories as you want for a single article, so they can be used like "tags". I have a basic idea about how to approach this, but I am in the process of evaluating whether it'll be worth the trouble.

  6. my understanding is that you can check out a category/tag's page to see what has been written- and an article can turn up in multiple places, according to the tags given. I guess it's easier for people with narrow interests to find other stuff that interests them.

  7. Yeah, I can understand that. The new categorization should make it easier for people to find out articles of interest. My only doubt now is whether I delete the existing categories and start afresh, or simply tweak around a few categories.

  8. The new categories are specific but also cover a broad range of subject - I think you've made a good choice!Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take a screenshot of your categories before the change, so I have nothing to compare the new ones to ;) They are good though.
