In a moment of extreme boredom, I have created a Twitter account.

Have I become a twit?

  2. Shrinidhi, I can see some uses for this tool, especially if one enables mobile phone updates.

  3. I once had a twitter account but then realised how terrible it was. It wasn't because of the concept, the concept is very good to allow people short status updates and interesting snippets - the problem lies with the people using twitter. The majority are downright idiots and create such a terrible non conducive environment. Now I have "tweets" on my own blog - you might have seen those smaller updates that don't allow comments.

    You should do the same.

  4. Good points, Dion.

Having said that, Twitter seems to be more non-intrusive than most other social networking tools. Let's see how it goes though. I can always delete the twitter account.

  9. etc etc etc. Sorry for the "spam" but that's quite honestly a very good simulation of a typical person's tweets. Random, useless stuff that most people don't understand and not to mention duplicates. The only good tweets are by news company, but with RSS feeds they become obsolete anyway. But don't worry, over time you no matter what get loads of followers. Just got to figure out which are human and which aren't.

  10. I know. There is one place where it might be useful. For instance, contacting your relatives half-way across the globe when you don't have an internet connection (using the mobile phone updates).

Also it's fun testing the desktop Twitter clients in Linux.

  11. Cheaper to send a text or email (both can be done using mobile phone or computer). Notice how your relatives are also much more likely to check text or email than use, let alone check, Twitter.

Oh well - it's up to you. It doesn't rock my boat but apparently some people thinks it's cool.

  12. Well, international SMS is quite expensive here. Also not all mobile providers give us access to internet services.

Ah, well... I suppose I was intrigued by its extreme popularity. They've created quite a buzz around it.
