Message from the admin/owner

Since October 2004, LiteraryForums.org has been live and I've had plenty of time and opportunity to make it a success. For the last few years however, it has not grown large enough to sustain itself as a forum community. I have done my best to promote it and I thank all the users who have participated in the forum. For myself, I feel sad at having to close it down at this stage, but I think it is in my best interests that I move on with other projects and other interests.

Having invested several years in my online community it was not easy to make this decision, but I must face the fact that it has lost direction and is no longer active as a community for the last year or so even. If one member were interested I would have kept it alive, but facts are facts. The majority of the few posts I got in the last few months are by spammers. It wasn't worth continuing.

If you have found this page through a search engine and are looking for any particular page, I apologize again for wasting a few minutes of your time. Please check the google cache of the URL you found and if you are lucky you might find the original content.

What I am going to do with the domain I've not yet decided. Keep it, sell it or let it expire?

  1. Let it expire. Domain names tend to build up faster than good sites.

I can understand you feel upset, but everything happens for a reason, you may get something brilliant to come...

  10. It was fun while it lasted and we had some good conversations there.

Hi Bren - I just sent you a friend request (I hope)! :-P

Hari, Bren is around 150 in and has, I think, an alphabet sampler as the avatar.

  11. Thanks Ray. One thing I will never regret is starting Literaryforums.org. I learned a lot in the process and got me a lot of friends. :D

  13. Hi.

As I said in a PM to Hari at TAZ, I like the idea of archiving the content. I would say the Internet Archive is a good service for viewing content from a site long gone, but it seems you can only view the front page, and the topic listing. A shame, as I remember a really old forum I used to run, but didn't keep the content for.

Anyways, I believe it was Teknomancer who got my into LiteraryForums. Or it may have been from a link at Patrick's forum, Community Admins. It feels like yesterday when all this happened.

    Regards,

    Kevin

  14. (By the way, it seems commas are not recognizable in the comments section, for some reason, as every instance of it in my previous post was turned into "'";)

  15. Thanks Zulehan. I've replied to your PM.

As for the inverted comma not appearing properly, my blog software converts special characters using htmlentities(). Apparently you didn't use the normal single quote character which is '

  16. Oh, man, what was I thinking? I said comma when I clearly meant apostrophe. That said, I must insist that I used a single quote character. Well, let me test it now. If it works, I must have unwittingly had the shift key down or something... they're.
