My new personal policy on online activities

I'm going to document this little shift in my policy towards my online activity so that I can read it to remind myself every now and then :P. I am no longer going to be actively involved with large and busy forums and communities with lots of members and posts. Instead I'll be looking to catch up on smaller boards with a friendlier ambience and also go back to promoting my own forum Literaryforums.org, which I feel that I've long neglected and my brother's forum ToonsAndComics.com. I will be consciously focussing my free time (which might become scarce as I'm now getting busier with my career drive) on my blog, my forum and then the rest. I want to establish a clear set of priorities for my time spent online and contributing in my modest way towards small boards which need active members and not continue to be a drop in the ocean of larger communities.

Hopefully this new focus will help me streamline my online activities, make me more productive in my areas of strength and allow me to concentrate on my career through this summer.

  1. Argh. I need to have an internet connection that stops me from procrastinating. :) I guess I need to work on my own moral fibre, not blame that of my computer... Career eh? vending DVDs or something more serious? (just kidding, just kidding)

  3. Hey Hari,It's sad to hear you won't be participating on the big forums (like LQ?). I have also been neglecting LQ recently because of revision, but I hope to get back on there soon.. I hope you'll change your mind after a while :)Anyway, best of luck! Hope everything goes well for you. I'm a bit busy myself ;)

  4. J_K9, it's just something I've been thinking about for a long time. The reason I set it down here is so that I can see if I follow it properly :P...Obviously I won't cut down completely from big forums (LQ is one where I am most active). But I will definitely slow down...The thing is, I participate in half a dozen forums + my own currently, so it's getting rather difficult. Cutting down on some of them is inevitable, so I thought it would be better to focus on the smaller ones where I'd be of some use anyway.Yeah, nothing big... just a significant shift in focus. Also I am not sure where I'll be heading in the next few months. I might lose my connectivity altogether if I move to another city (who knows? Might happen!).

  5. Good idea Hari. I, too, have in the past found myself stretched too thinly on the web. I now have a handful of sites I vist or participate in and find I'm not online any more than I need to. After a whole day staring at a laptop screen, I try to cut down on my out of hours activity.
