Anyway, a bit of an intermission from my regular postings, I thought I'd share the battery life of my Android 2.3 Sony Xperia Ray phone. Here's a screenshot - quite self explanatory.

Android battery life

Yes, that's 5 days, 8 hours 41 minutes and 30 seconds with 31% battery left. It is a kind of a record of sorts, but anyway, the secret is probably that I don't use it too much for other than voice calling and SMS. Waste of an Android? Probably, but I still use apps occasionally: I just don't use it as a plaything. I actually don't even have JuiceDefender or similar programs running. I didn't get much of a boost from them (not suprisingly) since I already squeeze so much life.

So here are some of the reasons, I think I get so much battery backup:

Anyway, I wonder if any of my readers get more than a few days of battery life from an Android phone. Share your experiences here.

  1. I am a relatively heavy user with constant email polling, usage as a music player / radio, ebook reading, with a few other apps I use constantly. In general a day will use about 60-70%, and then it'll be charged at night.

However if I'm overseas, data is turned off, any network connections are also off, and it'll last several days - not 5 like yours, though :) I guess it's because I tend to use apps more.

  2. Dion, I guess two of the main reasons I get good battery life is because I rarely use data or WiFi and keep the display brightness at minimum.

Data/WiFi and the screen are two of the biggest drainers of battery life. Apps can drain battery too, but it appears to be more because of the screen usage.

  3. Very nice! I've also bought a Sony Xperia Ray recently, and it has a very good battery life, just like yours. Today I made it to 5 days, 20 hours, 26 minutes and 56 seconds, with 15% battery left. My usage pattern is very similar to yours. I might even get more out of it by using my phone less, but the 5 days I got were achieved under "normal" usage (I used WiFi when I needed it, etc).

  5. 5 Days sounds crazy and unbelievable, However I have been troubled by poor battery life till yesterday, but I since yesterday I started using App called advanced task manager which is free and im just force stopping some of the system apps by default which are running in the background and its like saving my battery life like crazy....I have charged for entire night yesterday and started using it from today morning at about 9 AM and now its 6PM and Im at 84% battery still remaning...good bright display level, no background data, no data enabled..answered few long calls with few vdeos watched till now...Give advanced task manager a shot. I'm sure you wont be disappointed.

  6. Thanks karthik.

I had tried advanced task manager before. It's good for shutting down unwanted apps, but I didn't notice a significant improvement in battery life, since I am already getting quite good battery life.
